the AZTEC EMPIRE
First arriving in the Valley of Mexico in the late 12th century, the Aztecs were poor nomads with little to be remembered for. Things changed after they founded their capital city, Tenochtitlan. Through alliances with neighboring cities, the Aztecs built up a strong, impressive empire. The Aztec empire flourished between the years of 1345-1521. During these years, the Aztecs built up a strong religious base, a complex social structure, innovations in science and math, created impressive structures and developed a powerful military. While most Aztec roots were deeply entwined with the same thread of other Mesoamerican civilizations, the Aztecs were unique and found ways to stand out from the others.
